Standard:

Registered Nurse


  1. What does a person typically do in this occupation?
A Registered Nurse typically provides patient care, educates patients about health conditions, and provides advice and emotional support for their patients and family members. Nurses observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.

Registered Nurses spend considerable time walking and standing. They need to be able to cope well with stress and pressure since it's a career involving direct involvement with human suffering and emergencies.

Some special skills that are necessary for a registered nurse are speaking: talking to convey information, service orientation: looking for ways to help people, social perceptiveness: being aware of others reactions, reading comprehension: understand writing in work related documents, judgment and decision making: weighing the pros and the cons, problem sensitivity: ability to tell when something is wrong, and critical thinking: ability to use logic and analysis to identify strengths and weaknesses.

The median wage for a Registered Nurse is $65,470 per year and $31.48 per hour. Experienced registered nurses with advanced education can earn $80,000 a year or more.

My reaction to this job is concerned at the same time as excited because it is a career that will require a lot of hard work and dedication but it will be rewarding at the end therefore I wouldn’t reconsider.
